Cleaning the radiator is an essential part of the maintenance process, with positive effects on vehicle performance and lifetime. Most car owners neglect radiator maintenance routine inspections and give attention to this component only when a problem occurs with the cooling system. Engine overheating is a problem often associated with old cars and radiator regular service would prevent such problems. It is easy to keep clean sink following these eight steps that will ensure correct and optimal operation at any time.
What do you need:
- Distilled water (at least 1 or 2 liters, depending on engine capacity)
- Antifreeze Engine
- Washing liquid radiator
- A hose and a water source
- Waterproof and heat resistant gloves
- A towel or cotton cloth
Step 1 – Preparation
Park your car in a well ventilated and lighted. Make sure the engine to be cooled before starting the procedure.
Step 2 – Drain a little coolant
Gently removes exhaust valve to drain excess fluid and water in the system. It is better to let it flow at least one liter of water from the system. Let the cooling fluid flow and then tighten the valve seat.
Step 3 – Pour washing liquid radiator
Open the radiator cap and pour all cleaning fluid in the radiator (at least 250-500 ml). Then close the lid tightly.
Step 4 – Start the engine
Start the engine and let it warm up for 5-10 minutes. Stop it after it reaches operating temperature.
Step 5 – Drain all liquid cooling
Now that the liquid inside is hot radiator and other engine components, be sure to wear protective gloves for the following operations. Let the engine cool for about 5 minutes, and then drain the entire contents of the radiator by removing the valve outlet.
Step 6 – Rinse with water
Open the radiator cap and insert a hose. Do not put the lid empty handed as there may be hot. Connect the hose to a water source and allow liquid to pass through the radiator and then drain through the exhaust valve. Let the water run for about 5 minutes optimal rinsing system.
Step 7 – Refill radiator
Leave to drain all water valves and then close tightly. Pour fresh coolant and distilled water in the radiator. Close cover securely. Before you go further, check the exhaust valve leakage. It would be ideal to mix half the amount of coolant with as much distilled water. It is best to read the manual car is recommended quantity and concentration.
Step 8 – Start the engine
Sidestep everything you used to clean the radiator and the engine starts. Let him warm up to optimum temperature and see if there is a leak somewhere. Close the hood and start observing temperature indicator go on board and any changes that occur. Stop the car, hood up again and check for leaks.
Keep in mind well to remove any drop of spilled liquid cooling system components. If temperature indicator shows its growth, talk to a mechanic or go to a service to check the radiator and diagnose the exact problem.
