How to clean carbon buildup on the IAC valve

The control valve air control, IAC valve usually called, is responsible for adjusting the speed of adjustment. The IAC valve works in conjunction with other components to control electric air moving around the accelerator. If your car begins to stagnate or poorly regulated, your IAC valve may have a carbon buildup and need to be cleaned. Doing so is a simple task that takes only a few steps.

Instructions

  1. Let your vehicle cool for 20 minutes before starting work.
  2. Look in your owner’s manual for the exact location of the IAC valve in your vehicle. Usually it is near the throttle body.
  3. Remove the wiring connector using a screwdriver to leverage it. Using a socket wrench, unscrew the screws holding the IAC valve on the block.
  4. Examine the IAC valve. The part of the needle is normally where coal is accumulated. Use carburetor cleaner to spray and clean it using a cloth. Repeat this until all the carbon buildup has been removed. Let the IAC valve is completely dry before reinstalling.
  5. Enter the IAC valve back into the box and adjust the two screws. Plug the cable connector into place. Start the vehicle and let it warm up for five minutes before driving.
